New New York has bureaucracy, bad jobs, dating trouble and a delivery company with cashflow problems — the future is set dressing over a workplace sitcom, which is exactly what a thousand years is for. The distance is so preposterous that no individual prediction has to hold. Nobody watching in 1999 expected suicide booths, and nobody in 3027 will complain about their absence.
